Getting About When On Holiday

If you’re asked to go on holiday with friends or family and your mobility isn’t quite what it used to be then you may be inclined to say no to their offer. Most of us want to avoid being a burden on our families and would hate to curtail their activites while on a break. This doesn’t have to be necessarily so.

If you want to go on holiday you have a couple of possible solutions that you might like to think about. One is using a folding mobility scooter that will fit in the boot of a car. Once on your scooter you can keep apace with everyone else. You can hire one for when you’re away without having to go to the expense of buying one outright.

A few things to bear in mind though are that you’ll need to have access to a power point to charge up the battery. There’s also a little bit of a learning curve which if you’ve spent your life as a non-driver might put you off slightly.

If a scooter isn’t for you then you might like to consider using a wheelchair. These days you can get ones that fold up so they are easy to transport in a car. We all have good days and bad days and on a good day you can always leave the wheelchair in the car. When you’ve got a long day planned then you’ll know that you’ll need to take the wheelchair with you. Because they are so light they aren’t a problem to push around so even if you don’t get to use it they can always be used to push around the group’s shopping.

If you want to make using your wheelchair a little easier you could buy a small aluminium wheelchair ramp to help you over thresholds. And don’t forget to pack a sunhat or a rug depending on the weather you’re likely to encounter.

Whether using a mobility scooter or wheelchair, don’t leave your walking stick behind because it will maximise your ability to get around in allsorts of places. So don’t say no, say yes instead and enjoy spending time with your family.
